On the 14th of December the Chairman of the Board of “Civil Society Institute” NGO and FIDH Secretary General Artak Kirakosyan together with CSI NGO president Arman Danielyan presented the 2011 Report on the Protection of the Human Rights Defenders around the world.
On the 25th of November Civil Society Institute NGO organized a protest in front of the Embassy of Republic of Belarus in Armenia condemning the unfair verdict of human rights activist Ales Bialiatski and demanding freedom for him.
The report of "Trial Monitoring Report. Cases Involving Juvenile Defendants" was prepared by the "Civil Society Institute" NGO. The project has been launched in March of this year and lasted for 8 months. During the project 37 juvenile crime cases were observed in the courts of Yerevan, Gyumri and Vanadzor. According to the statistics provided by the police, in these regions the rate of crimes committed by juveniles is relatively higher.
Due to the legal and practical issues within the system of release from prison on the ground of severе illness, the process of release of sick prisoners is procrastinated for months and in many cases prisoners simply die in the penitentiary institutions. This problem along with number of other shortcomings was revealed in the result of research "Release of prisoners on the ground of severe illness. Legislative and practical problems in Armenia" conducted by Civil Society Institute NGO.
Armenian human rights organizations have joined the demand of their international colleagues to release human rights defender working in Belarus Ales Belyatsky.
