Conflict transformation. Armenian-Turkish relations

From September 26th till October 2nd , 2008, "Civil Society Institute" NGO organized a seminar concerning conflict transformation. The participants were students and graduates of international relations and political science from Armenia and Turkey.



During lessons, which also included non formal educational training, the participants learned about the essence of conflict, the stages of conflict escalation, and methods of conflict transformation by Friedrich Glasl's thesis





 

The subject of the seminar was also a discussion of Armenian-Turkish relations and perspectives nowadays. Thus, the participants had meetings with Arman Kirakosyan, Deputy of Minister of Foreign Affairs of RA, Kiro Manoyan, the head of Armenian Cause Office, Charles Lonsdale, Her Majesty's Ambassador to the RA, Armen Martirosyan, head of "Heritage" party of RA Parliament. They also participated at a round table entitled "The perspectives of opening Armenian-Turkish border" in The Armenian Center for National and International Studies. The seminar had a reach cultural agenda. The participants visited different museums and sightseeing.




During Armenian cultural party Armenian participants had a small theatre performance on "Barekendan" fairy tale by Hovhannes Tumanyan, and a presentation about different styles of Armenian music. One of interesting parts of party was Komitas song "Hoy, Nazan im" by all participants.


During Turkish cultural party Turkish participants cooked different meals, which in Turkish are called - mercimek keftesi, tarhana orbası, eriste and menemen. There was music and dances after entertainment.


But the program doesn't finished. Five Armenian participants will visit Istanbul to participate at lectures in Fatih university and have various meetings. A joint Armenian-Turkish newspaper with articles of participants will be also published and distributed in Armenia and Turkey.

The program is implemented by "Civil Society Institute" NGO in cooperation with Fatih and Bilgi universities, by financial assistance of UK Embassy in RA.
