This year on 18th November Latvia celebrated the 90th anniversary of independence (1918-2009). It was one of the reasons why the last day of October, on the day of Halloween Latvia was presented in CSI office. The aim of the presentation was to introduce Armenians and foreigners to Latvian culture, food, dances, traditions history and geography. In the beginning Latvia was presented with showing two video-presentations and small introduction to Latvian geography, history, known people, politics, tourism etc. After this visitors had possibility to taste some Latvian food: cheese salad, meat jelly, potatoes with a sauce and to drink some apple pap (jelly made with potato flour). While eating visitors had possibility to listen to Latvian traditional and modern music.
Latvia is known abroad also by their singers and composers such as Raimonds Pauls, Laima Vaikule, Marie N (the winner of Eurovision Song Contest, 2002), Brainstorm, Gidons Kreimers and the others. That’s why the slogan Latvia chose for the promoting Latvia abroad is “Latvia – the land that sings”. After eating people were gathered back to the conference room and here the funniest and at the same time serious part started – the quiz about Latvia. Surprisingly people knew really a lot about this small country in Europe. Between the questions people had an opportunity to learn how to say basic words, to count in Latvian. Thanks to Latvian Institute for letting to use its materials for the presentation.
