In continuation of the series of cultural events, on Thursday, January 29th 2009, a Syrian party was organized at Civil Society Institute.
“Syria: Crossroad of Civilizations” was the title of this gathering. It started with presentation about Syria, containing geographic, historic and other details about a country which was the cradle of many different civilizations (Assyrians, Aramaic, Arabs, Phoenicians, etc.) and nowadays is just an amazing museum under the open-sky. The first part of the presentation focused on the biggest cities: Damascus, Aleppo and Hims. The second part included information about the Syrian Desert and its ancient tourist-attraction cities and sites, such as Palmyra, Aphamea. The last part was an introduction through colorful pictures to the other sites of Syria.
The presentation was followed by a question and answer session, after which participants went to taste and learn about some Syrian dishes. The party ended by traditional Syrian music and modern Arabic dances. The Syrian party was organized by a Hovsep Berberyam, citizen of Syria and student of the Yerevan State Linguistic Institute.
