November 7-8, 2006 – Civil Society Institute in cooperation with Penal Reform International and collaborating with the OSCE office in Yerevan organized a training course for the Group of Civil Society Monitors of the Custody Places under the Police of Armenia. The training was led by UK expert Ian Smith, Chief Executive of the Independent Custody Visiting Association. Participants in the course included Group of Civil Society Monitors, potential candidates of the board, as well as staff members from Armenian Ombudsman’s office.
The group members obtained skills and learned about issues regarding how to conduct visitations through various simulations, discussions and role plays. As a result of the course, the group composed a draft of the internal regulations and code of ethics.
