On March 15th the dialogue which took place at the Marriot Hotel among the RA Ombudsman and civil society representatives initiated efforts to nominate a working group which will prepare a legislative package to regulate the establishment and activities of the National Preventative Mechanisms under the OPCAT.
Participants from the civil society sector in this meeting included representatives from the Helsinki Committee of Armenia, Foundation Against Legal Violation, Partnership for Democracy, Youth Center for Democratic Initiatives and Civil Society Institute. Attendees at the event also included representatives from the OSCE office in Yerevan, the Embassy of Great Britain, Penal Reform International South Caucasus Office and the Association for the Prevention of Torture.
This event is part of Civil Society Institute’s collaborative efforts with Penal Reform International and Association for the Prevention of Torture with the financial support of the British Government and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands in a campaign to achieve the signing, ratification and implementation of the Optional Protocol to UN Convention Against Torture in Armenia.
