Gevorg Kostanyan has been appointed for the post of the General Prosecutor of Armenia

On 1 October, Gevorg Kostanyan, Military Prosecutor of Armenia, was appointed the General Prosecutor, following voting in the National Assembly: 103 parliament members voted for the appointment, whereas 3-against it.

Overall, 108 parliament members participated at the closed secret elections, 2 ballots were considered void.

According to Article 103 of the Armenian Constitution, the General Prosecutor is proposed by the President and appointed by the National Assembly for the period of 6 years. The same person cannot be appointed more than two times for the post of the General Prosecutor.

Let us remind that on 13 September the term of service of the former General Prosecutor Aghvan Hovsepyan expired. Mr Hovsepyan has served as General Prosecutor in 1998-1999, also in 2004-2007 and 2007-2013.

On 26 September, the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan proposed the candidacy of Gevorg Kostanyan for the National Assembly’s approval.
