Hayrikyan will not bring an appeal to postpone elections

Armenian
presidential candidate Parouyr Hayrikyan, who was attacked days before, today
declared his decision.

“Although Parouyr
Hayrikyan faces impenetrable obstacles, nevertheless, he will not use his right
provided by the law and will not file an appeal to the Constitutional Court to
postpone elections for two weeks,” said the candidate's lawyer Levon
Baghdasaryan at the press-conference on 5 February.

“We absolutely exclude
the condition of new elections. It is clear to us that the perpetrators and
organizers’ aim was to kill Mr. Hayrikyan which would lead to new elections.
Considering that this was their goal, we do not want them to reach it,”
commented on their decision Karo Eghnoukyan, Head of public relations at
Hayrikyan's head office.

He added that “they
leave the door open” for other candidates. “Now we do not want to postpone
elections, considering that other candidates' right to express their opinion
and attitudes, through dialogue or applying to the Constitutional Court”,
mentioned Mr. Eghnoukyan, and noted that several candidates already expressed
their willingness to apply to the Constitutional Court.

He disagreed with
the opinion, circulated in the mass media and social networks, that Hayrikyan
is “lucky” and the happening affected his image positively.

“It is not true.
When a presidential candidate appears in hospital, it already creates a
negative image, leaves an impression that this person is vulnerable. It does
not increase his rating, it is excluded in the world history,” said Eghnoukyan.
According to him, Parouyr Hayrikyan does not intend to exploit the happening,
although legally these are impenetrable circumstances.

The research done
by the Hayrikyan's team showed that the murder attempt did not change the
rating of the candidate: “there is no significant change, about which Mr
Adibekyan and other talk. His rating did not increase”, declared the head of
public relations of the Hayrikyan's head office.

At the end of the
press-conference Parouyr Hayrikyan appeared unexpectedly and declared that he
came simply to demonstrate that he is present both at the political scene and
physically.

“I want everybody
to know that no terrorist act should affect the political life of Armenia. I
understand very well that this was act of terrorism against me and I know the
reasons of it. It had been planned for years and was not the first attempt to
kill me. However, they never had a purpose to kill me but they try to kill
those values that I wanted to make my people's own values, such as democracy,
independence, self-determination, human rights”, said Hayrikyan.

He noted once
more, concluding his speech that he stayed alive thanks to the God providence,
because he has a mission, which is to make Armenia the most exemplary state in
the world by its democracy model. To reach this, politicians in Armenia should
put aside their ambitions and unite.

Let us remind that
the murder attempt against RA presidential candidate Parouyr Hayrikyan took
place on 31 January, after which he declared that, probably, he would have to
ask for postponing elections for two weeks, on the basis of the Article 52 of
the Constitution.
