It is not mandatory to accept the «invitation» of law-enforcement bodies

The
Human Rights Defender's Office receives dozens of alarms from people whose
relatives were «invited» by the law-enforcement bodies to the appropriate police
departments for conversation and were kept there for hours. «The invitees» were
released only after the interference of the Rapid Response Group of the
Ombudsman.

This
was communicated in the statement released by the Human Rights Defender Office.

Ombudsman
Karen Andreasyan warned that the invitation of people to the departments by the
law enforcement employees is not a legal requirement thus the person may show
up merely based on his/her will.

«It
means that every person is entitled not to go to the appropriate department or
division in each case of receiving invitation from the law-enforcement bodies
and moreover, he/ she are not obliged to be there against their will», is highlighted
in the statement with the reference to the Article 15 of the RA Law on
Operative Crime Detection Activities.
